Carl
D. Poplar, Esq.
Carl D. Poplar has more than 40 years of experience
as a trial lawyer and is known as one of the leading
trial attorneys in the State of New Jersey.
Mr.
Poplar is known for his representation of the
accused in complex and high profile criminal cases.
He is also a skillful civil litigator handling
a wide range of complex matters. The cases that
he has handled include white-collar crimes, health
care fraud, class actions, anti-trust matters,
business disputes as well as medical malpractice,
product liability and personal injury. In addition,
Mr. Poplar actively represents attorneys in ethics
proceedings as well as physicians and other healthcare
professionals in licensure matters before the
professional boards of the State of New Jersey.
Mr.
Poplar has appeared before the courts at every
level in New Jersey, from the municipal courts
to the New Jersey Supreme Court and has appeared
before the United States Federal District Courts
and Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal. Mr. Poplar
has been certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court
as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney and a Certified
Criminal Trial Attorney for nearly 25 years. This
designation is granted to attorneys who have been
able to demonstrate sufficient levels of experience,
education, knowledge and skill in trial practice.
Mr. Poplar has served as the Chairperson
of the Trial Attorney Certification Board.
Mr.
Poplar has numerous membership and elected positions
in various professional organizations. He has
been inducted into prestigious trial organizations
whose membership is limited to only those trial
attorneys who are invited to membership by their
peers because of their reputation, experience
and skill. He is a Fellow of the American College
of Trial Lawyers, an organization which is made
up of the best respected civil and criminal trial
litigators in the country. He is a Fellow of the
American Board of Criminal Defense Lawyers which
is an organization that consists of less than
300 of the most experienced and respected criminal
defense attorneys in this country. He is a Fellow
of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers,
which is limited to a total of 500 attorneys within
the United States. He is an Advocate of the American
Board of Trial Advocacy whose membership is limited
to only those attorneys who have had a substantial
amount of actual in court trial experience.
He
is a co-founder of the Association of Criminal
Defense Lawyers of New Jersey, and was elected
President of this organization in 1991. He has
also served as a member of the Board of Trustees
of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey, as President
of the Federal Bar Association of New Jersey, the
Association of Trial Lawyers of America-New Jersey
and as Chairperson for the Criminal Law Section of
the New Jersey State Bar. He has been a member of
the New Jersey Supreme Court Criminal Practice
Committee, Civil Practice Committee, Criminal
Charge Committee and District Ethics Committee.
Throughout
his career Mr. Poplar has received numerous awards
of recognition. In 1993 he received the "Trial
Bar Award", from the Trial Attorneys of New
Jersey honoring the most distinguished trial attorneys
within the State of New Jersey. In 2000 he received
the Rutgers School of Law-Camden, New Jersey Armitage
Award which is in recognition of outstanding alumni.
Mr.
Poplar has been listed in various professional
directories, including the book The Best Lawyers
in America. He has been listed in every one of
the editions since its initial publication
in 1983.
Mr.
Poplar is regularly a speaker at continuing legal
education seminars throughout the state and region
on various topics including civil and criminal
law, professional ethics, and trial techniques.
He has served as an Adjunct Professor of Trial
Advocacy at the Rutgers School of Law and has
been a guest lecturer on numerous occasions at
law schools. He has also appeared as a legal commentator
on television.
Mr.
Poplar graduated from Syracuse University in 1964.
He then attended Rutgers School of Law in Camden,
New Jersey, graduating in 1967.
